This is an Apennine race rather than an Alpine one, and the difference is the shape of the climbing rather than its size. There is no single pass to cross: 5,091 m accumulates over ridge after ridge of beech wood, forest road and single track between the Senio and Lamone valleys, with the high ground around 1,100 m and the course dropping back towards the village repeatedly. Palazzuolo itself is the hub, and the organiser runs a base life there. What the race asks for is the night and the cold. A 22:00 start puts eight hours of darkness in front of runners before they have settled, the ridges at the end of October are wet and often in cloud, and the second half is run tired on ground that never gives a long runnable stretch. The organiser publishes nine aid points but no kilometre marks for them and no intermediate time gates, so the table below carries the start, the finish and the 25-hour limit and nothing between.

Finish time by age group

Every track runs from the start to the 25h cutoff, so the empty part of a bar is the time that group's median finisher still had. Men and women are drawn on the same scale.

How these numbers were computed

These are times for runners who finished. They exclude everyone who started and did not, so they describe how long finishing took, not how long the race takes. Bands with only a handful of finishers move a lot from one edition to the next.

We plot the median, not the average. A handful of very quick runners drags the average well below the time half the field actually beat, so the median is the honest number to plan against.

Nationality here shows who travels to this race, not who runs it best. That alone is why a host nation tops almost every list.
