Running Pace Converter
Convert between min/km, min/mi, km/h, and mph. Includes splits for trail distances up to 100km.
About pace and speed units
min/km is the standard pace unit across Europe and most GPS watches. It measures how long it takes to cover one kilometre — lower is faster. Coaches working in metric systems use min/km for workout prescriptions and race planning.
min/mi is common in the US and UK. Because a mile is 1.609 km, a pace of 5:00/km equals roughly 8:03/min/mi. Many trail segments on platforms like Strava display speed as km/h or mph for segment comparison, which is why this converter includes all four units.
Trail context: Flat pace is a useful baseline, but on technical trail with elevation, expect your actual pace to be 15–40% slower. A runner who does 5:00/km on a flat road might run 6:30–7:00/km on moderate trail. The splits table here uses flat pace — use the GAP Calculator to adjust for gradient.
